These hide scrapers are fabricated in small batches combining a mild steel blade with a hand ground single bevel to create the perfect edge for fleshing, graining and membraning hides furs and fish skins. The handles are hand crafted from durable hard woods such as Oak or Ash sealed with boiled linseed oil and fixed using corby bolts.
The oval cross section of the handles allows for maximum transfer of energy through the blade onto the hide working against a suitable hard wood or plastic pipe scraping beam.
The blade edge is critical neither sharp like a cutting edge nor rounded it gives you exactly the purchase required to remove fat and flesh during the cleaning of the green hide. The tool comes ready for use and each blade is checked for the correct ‘feel’ to ensure no damage is done to the hide during the graining and membraning stages of producing buckskins and leathers for example.
These scraping tools have a blade width of 20cms between the handles with the total length of the tool around 42cms.
